DSB train workshop in Copenhagen

Gottlieb Paludan Architects has designed the workshop facilities in Copenhagen for DSB's new electric trains.

DSB is embarking on a new era of electric train operations. In the transformation from older diesel trains to electric trains, DSB is building new workshops to receive, maintain and prepare these new electric trains. Functionality and sustainability are guiding principles in the project proposals.

Gottlieb Paludan Architects are sub-consultants to Rambøll and have prepared the project proposal. The building will be constructed on the 'Godsbanen' railroad track, close to Copenhagen Central Station, and will cover just over 11,000 m².

The building program includes two buildings - a main workshop with storage facilities, technical installations, smaller component workshops for specialized work, an administration wing, a canteen and changing rooms for the employees, and a separate wheel turning building east of the main workshop. Both buildings share functionality as a guiding design principle.

Both buildings have to fit into a relatively limited space and have been designed to function optimally in relation to traffic and other workshop logistics. In addition, a landscape design has been developed to ensure a harmonious integration on site.

The project proposal has been designed to be certified according to the DGNB sustainability standard in the gold category.
