What do you do, as a large educational institution that needs extra bicycle parking spaces, on special occasions - for example, at the start of the semester? Usually, it entails chaos, because bicycles are parked on access roads, fire roads and generally occupy most of the outdoor area. CBS and Frederiksberg Municipality have struggled with this dilemma in connection with the extension and redeployment of the permanent bicycle parking at the main complex, Solbjerg Plads. Gottlieb Paludan Architects has developed a movable bicycle parking solution to solve the problem. The design was tested at the beginning of the semester in September 2019 and fulfilled its purpose.

Gottlieb Paludan Architects has designed a bicycle parking solution for temporary bicycle parking, in connection with the redesign of the permanent bicycle parking area at Copenhagen Business School.

The project was completed for Frederiksberg Municipality and CBS who plan to use the parking solution as a supplement to the permanent bicycle parking, at future events where there may be need for extra parking spaces.

The bicycle parking signs are made of galvanized steel and can be used to mark a designated area for temporary bicycle parking. The signs’ light blue colour causes them to stand out from the standard urban furniture. Bicycles are parked in between two signs that show the beginning and end of the bicycle parking area. A single sign weighs 45 kg. rendering it durable and easy to place as needed.

The easily identifiable design can be used to avoid unwanted blockages of sidewalks and emergency exists.
