New rail service to Aalborg Airport

It has been decided to improve the public transport options to and from Aalborg Airport, and Banedanmark has therefore launched a project to establish a new rail service between Aalborg city centre and the airport. The new three-kilometre branch line will run from the airport to Lindholm Station where passengers may continue on connecting services; at Lindholm Station, the main railway network provides both regional services and intercity services to the main towns and cities in Denmark.

The project will include providing technical advice and assistance that will uncover issues regarding alignment, track construction, drainage and carrying capacity, bridges, clearance and the catenary system together with the necessary environmental analyses for an EIA report on the project.

Gottlieb Paludan Architects will provide architectural and landscape architectural expertise on this project which will include devising the alignment and connection to the existing railway, the line’s integration with the surroundings, siting and designing a new station for the airport and providing input for the EIA report.

The architectural vision for the project will take shape and colouring from the landscape and the alignment of the line, location and link to the airport, intermodality, access roads as well as equipment, materials and surfaces.
