Nørreport Bike Stand

Gottlieb Paludan Architects developed a new, space-saving bike stand for the urban space at Nørreport Station together with COBE.

Gottlieb Paludan Architects was in charge of all architectural work related to the renovation of Nørreport Station, including the optimisation of bicycle parking in the busy urban space.

The space occupied by the bicycles is compressed by placing two bikes around each stand so their wheels overlap. The maximised use of space is achieved by fitting the stands tightly and twisting them at a 45-degree angle.
The distinguishing feature of the Nørreport Bike Stand is its slim column and one-piece metal bike holders bent in a V shape. The bike stand can be adapted to local conditions with one or two holders and an optional solar lamp, spotlight or closed top.
The bike stands at Nørreport are in stainless steel and the solar lamps on top of the stands turn on after dark, giving the impression of a thousand stars arranged in rows while spotlights in other stands light up the underside of the cloud-shaped roofs covering the bicycle parking areas.

The stands are located in recessed concrete beds to ensure flow and lines of sight on the station square.

Gottlieb Paludan Architects and COBE received the 2015 “Skub-op” award for the innovative design.
