Ishøj waterworks
Gottlieb Paludan Architects provided consulting services both during the preparation of the Local Plan and throughout the tender for a turnkey contract of a new unmanned waterworks building in Ishøj.
The waterworks is situated on a plot east of Ishøj Village, near a new large-scale forestation area. The outdoor areas of the waterworks will be accessible to the public, with grazing sheep nearby. A Sustainable Urban Drainage System (SUDS) solution is being implemented, where rainwater from the roof is channeled through visible trenches on the ground to a low-lying area.
In a modern waterworks, the entire water treatment process takes place in closed containers, so the drinking water is not exposed to daylight, which could promote algae growth. Therefore, it is possible to install windows in the processing rooms, which allows visibility for passersby as well as natural light for the operational staff.
Unlike traditional, older, enclosed waterworks, a modern waterworks can showcase the process from the outside, enhancing integration with the local residents.
