Copenhagen Central Station, Modernisation of the station hall
Copenhagen Central Station is to undergo a major refurbishment and modernisation. For more than 100 years, Copenhagen Central Station has been a traffic hub in Copenhagen. As traffic patterns change, the need for renovation and remodelling of indoor areas has arisen. Based on visionary analyses of the station hall, Gottlieb Paludan Architects is responsible for a redevelopment project that will result in a fundamental rearrangement of the railway station hall.
In future, the hall will house two business pavilions in one part of the hall, while the other part of the hall will be a large, open area with an overview for the many travellers and a great view of the beautiful ceiling. Aesthetically, the current qualities of the main railway station are continued, and everything is subordinate to the building conservation. The remodelling focuses on modernity, functionality and operation, and is at the same time rooted in the historical significance and protected status of the Central Station.
Gottlieb Paludan Architects has been involved in the remodelling, restoration, adaptation and maintenance of Copenhagen Central Station for decades, from lighting design and signage to artistic decoration, platform extensions and shop fittings.
