Copenhagen Central Station, Forecourt upgrade

In collaboration with Grontmij and  Gunver Hansen, Gottlieb Paludan Architects performed the upgrade of the forecourt at Copenhagen Central Station, improving the conditions for particularly cyclists and pedestrians.

The areas surrounding Copenhagen Central Station were also renovated in connection with a complete overhaul of the concrete and bridge structures around the railway cutting at the station.

All in all, the layout of the access roads is the same, but it better accommodates the needs of cyclists and pedestrians. More, well-positioned ‘drop off only’ spaces have been established while actual car parking spaces have been reduced. The bicycle path and pavements now follow a more regular course and there are now more and better bicycle parking facilities.

The forecourt was upgraded with new granite paving.

and accessibility arrangements have been brought up to date with guidance lines and ramps. In addition, a new lighting concept has been implemented on the forecourt and at the entrances to the station.

The materials were selected to increase road users’ consideration for each other and to reflect the protection status and architectural significance of Copenhagen Central Station.
