Aarhus Central Station, Renovation of platform hall

Gottlieb Paludan Architects has completed major renovation works in the platform hall at Aarhus Central Station, which remained fully operational throughout.

Since Aarhus Central Station was built in 1927, the hall and platforms have undergone many minor refurbishments and partial modernizations. These alterations had gradually become outdated and disjointed. Therefore, a comprehensive renovation project was initiated and passengers are now greeted by an accessible, bright and inviting platform hall.

The renovation works also prepared the station for the coming light rail (horizontal directional drilling by platforms and tracks and cable trays) and ensured that Aarhus Central Station lives up to the requirements for the sections on the Trans-European Networks.

Following the comprehensive renovation, the platforms have a harmonious appearance and a good layout. The new station furniture, information screens and announcement speakers are all kept in a simple design with clean lines. The rafters are painted in a saturated red colour – an architectural nod to Copenhagen Central Station.
