Värtaverket is among the finalists in no less than two categories at this year’s MIPIM Awards in Cannes. The Swedish biomass-fuelled CHP plant was a collaborative project, designed by Gottlieb Paludan Architects and the Swedish architectural company Urban Design.

Located on the outskirts of Shenzhen, the waste-to-energy plant will incinerate 5,000 tonnes of waste per day, generating 550 million kWh every year. The client demands a strong architectural vision for the project that will give the city and the local residents an inviting public complex while also providing a platform for public education.
