Ryparken Station, Renovation and upgrade

With the renovation of Ryparken Station the aim was to improve accessibility to the station so that it can best serve the high numbers of passengers it serves - whether they arrive by bike, bus or transfer between s-trains.

Ryparken Station is a busy transport interchange with the railway bridges overhead Lyngbyvejen’s heavy vehicular traffic. Today, the station appears more accessible due to the enhanced layout with a new forecourt and improved cycle parking facilities. The task has been solved by simplifying and tidying up buildings, materials and functions, while restoring the original architectural qualitiesin the process.

The functions of the station building have been brought together in a new concourse with simple glass façades facing the forecourt. The forecourt itself has been cleared of secondary buildings, given a new unifying paving and 250 new cycle parking spaces.  The existing bridge structures have been cleared up and cleaned and the elevated platform buildings recladded.

A simple and effective lighting design gives the forecourt character and improves the feeling of safety and security at night.

Design challenges

- Re-establishing the station's original architectural qualities.

- Improving accessibility and legibility.

- Enhancing the passengers' feeling of safety through carefully planned lighting.
