Odense Foot and Cycle Bridge wins European Steel Design Award

04.09.2015

The European Convention for Constructional Steelwork (ECCS) has selected the foot and cycle bridge in Odense as the winner of an Award of Merit for its outstanding and creative use of steel.

The bridge, which was inaugurated in May, links the city and the new harbour developments by elegantly spanning 130 metres of railway tracks and platforms. The bridge is designed with the ambition to create a simple and beautiful construction accommodating the natural traffic patterns of the area. A prominent feature of the bridge is the 40-metre pylon in polished stainless steel carrying the longest span of this fluid structure which will be not only a main thoroughfare for pedestrians and cyclists, but also a beacon for Odense.

Gottlieb Paludan Architects was main consultant on the project with ES Consult, NIRAS, Bartenbach Lichtlabor and lighting-design artist Anita Jørgensen as subconsultants.

The client, contractor and design team will be presented with the award at the European Steel Design Awards Ceremony in Istanbul, Turkey, on 15 September.
