GPA to advise on protecting the north coast of Zealand

20.04.2017

Gottlieb Paludan Architects has been selected to advise three local authorities on the tender management process for a coastal protection project.

Climate change puts major strain on coastal protection measures all over the country. This is added to the ever present “natural” erosion. In North Zealand the local authorities of the three local municipalities situated on the north coast, namely Halsnæs, Gribskov and Helsingør, have joined forces to secure a more robust and natural protection of the coast.

Coastal protection of the area became a hot topic of discussion in the wake of Storm "Bodil" in 2013. The direct damage on the north coast alone was estimated at DKK 85 million. Thus, there are major financial assets at very serious risk, both the properties in the area as well as the extensive infrastructure.  At the same time, it is crucial to protect the overall value of the coast as a local excursion spot, tourist destination and area of natural beauty.

Gottlieb Paludan Architects and Rambøll will be collaborating on the contract documents for an EU tender on the coastal technology project. This includes an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and client consultancy on managing the tender process. We will also assist the clients with organizing workshops to clarify major issues and project management to ensure progress of this comprehensive project to protect the future of the north coast of Zealand.
