Design Competition in the UNESCO town of Christiansfeld

03.05.2016

The housing association Domea Lunderskov-Kolding and Kolding Local Authority have launched a design competition to develop new affordable homes in the historic centre of Christiansfeld in Southern Jutland. The entrants have been asked to produce design proposals for affordable homes, provided in a combination of listed buildings and new builds at the site of Christiansfeld’s old school house.

The future social housing complex will be established in six existing buildings in Lindegade (of which three are listed) and three new builds in Nørregade. The project also includes converting the old school yard into a green communal area. The project area is situated at the historic heart of Christiansfeld which, in 2015, achieved international recognition and was granted status as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The project must successfully interpret and further develop the architectural qualities that characterize this World Heritage Site and contribute to visitors’ experience of a unique, preservation-worthy, active and vibrant town.

At the end of May, four competition teams will be selected from the applications submitted to participate in the competition.
